History

1954 - Founded as a partnership, called Hale & Whittington at Crystal Palace, London.1960 - Partnership dissolved, with Richard Whittington gaining control.1962 - Company became incorporated as R.J.W. Ltd.1964 - Company moved to Vestry Estate, Sevenoaks.1973 - Clive Whittington joined the company.1979 - Paul Whittington joined the company.1979 - R.J.W. Ltd. purchased another engineering company, Butler & Phillips Ltd. in Hastings.1987 - Hastings and Sevenoaks divisions merge, occupying a new freehold factory at Kemsing, Sevenoaks.1988 - Richard Whittington retired, leaving control to his sons Clive and Paul, who became joint Managing Directors.2005 - On the 1st April, R.J.W. Ltd. purchased the Charpy business from Blacks Equipment Ltd. We had known Blacks since the 1960's and had a close working relationship with them. We have been involved with the manufacture of their Charpy Equipment since its conception, so are fully familiar with all aspects of their Charpy machines. We continue to market the equipment under the trade name of 'BLACKS Charpy', which is synonymous with good quality.
